Samuel was born on 11 December 1757 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts to Samuel Sewall and Elizabeth.[1]
Samuel Sewall graduated from Harvard College in 1776; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Marblehead. He married Abigail Devereaux on 3 December 1781 in Salem, Essex, Massachusetts.[2] He was a member of the U. S. House of Representatives from December 7, 1796, until his resignation on January 10, 1800, and was a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a presidential elector in 1801, a justice of the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts, 1800-1814, and chief justice of that court at the time of his death.
Samuel Sewall died on 8 June 1814 in Wiscasset, Lincoln, Maine, United States.[3]
