Obituary: LA PLATA HOME PRESS, La Plata, Missouri, April 11, 1957. ROBERT ELI SEWELL ---Robert Eli Sewell, a painter and paper hanger in La Plata since 1925, died suddenly at Grim-Smith Hospital at 7:40 last night. Mr. Sewell, seventy-nine, had been slightly ill through the winter but died after suffering a stroke last night. ---He was born March 9, 1878 in Council Grove, Kansas, the son of Eli and Margaret Sewell. He attended elementary school there and later in Oklahoma. ---At Council Grove he was married to Mrs. Emma Shope and who died a few years later. ---On March 20, 1913 he was married to Mrs. Dora Naylor at Macon. ---Survivors include his wife; two sons, Avery Eli Sewell of Chadwick, Nebraska and Adrain Bloom Sewell of Keokuk, Iowa; a step-daughter, Mrs. Gladys Rash of Kirksville; a step-son, Clyde Naylor of La Plata and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Geraldine McCormick of Amarillo, Texas. ---The last of the family of ten, Mr. Sewell is also survived by several grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. ---He and his wife moved to Atlanta in 1931 and in 1945 to La Plata where he has since resided. ---He was a member of the Atlanta Presbyterian Church. ---Funeral services will be tomorrow (Friday) at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home, Rev. Claude Thompson will officiate. ---Mrs. Geraldine McCormick arrived in La Plata by train this morning and Avery Sewell is expected by plane at Millard this afternoon.
