DEATH NOTICE. SEWELL.—On March 8, 1916, at his residence, Hadleigh, Pingelly, G. M. Sewell, aged 60 years.
OBITUARY. DEATH OF MR. G. M. SEWELL, M.L.C. Pingelly, March 8. Mr. George M. Sewell, M.L.C., who had been ailing since the beginning of the year owing to some internal growth, and for whom little hope of recovery was held out by his medical advisers, passed away this morning. The deceased leaves a wife and two children—Mr. W. O. Sewell and Mrs. G. D. Smith. He was one of the best known and highly respected residents in the district, and much sympathy has been expressed with the family in their bereavement, not only throughout the district, but from various parts of the State. The funeral takes place to-morrow afternoon. The late Mr. Sewell was born in the Beverley district on September 8, 1855. His father, the late Mr. John Sewell, came to this State in the ship Adam, a vessel of only 300 tons burthen, in 1834. Mr. G. M. Sewell spent practically the whole of his life in farming pursuits in the Beverley district, and took a very active part in public affairs. He was for years a member of the Pingelly Roads Board, at one time occupying the position of chairman. He was also at one period president of the Pingelly Agricultural Society, and president of the local race club, and was connected with many other bodies. In 1914 he was selected as the nominee of the Country Party to contest the seat for the representation of the South-East Province in the Legislative Council, rendered vacant by the death of the late Mr. Charles A. Piesse, and was successful in winning the contest.
