George was born in Tennessee. His family lived in Jefferson Co., Tennessee. Land purchase of public sale of 100 acres in Jefferson County, Tennessee, in December 1808, when he would have been approximately eighteen years of age. [1]
George was commissioned May 30,1808, as an "Ensign" in the 6th Regiment from Jefferson County, Tennessee.[2][3] It appears George was wounded in 1815, still as Captain of the 6th Regiment. i George married Susannah Copeland on Oct 12, 1808 in Jefferson, Tennessee.[4]
Move to Alabama: purchase of land was recorded on September 25, 1830, when George Sewell acquired 51.37 acres in the "North Part . . Fraction A, Section 21, Township 4, Huntsville, Alabama. [5] [6]
Son, Marcus immigrated to Texas by 1835. Marcus L Sewell was one of the Alamo Defenders who was killed March 6, 1836.
1837 - George asked the surveyors who were going to Texas to check into what happened to the land bounties that his deceased son, Marcus L Sewell should have been awarded. The surveyors stirred up the Republic of Texas in 1837. Soon the bounties were checked into and awarded to Heirs. Marcus L Sewell was one of the Alamo Defenders who was killed March 6, 1836.
George passed away 1866 in Tennessee, USA. Burial at Round Hill Cemetery, Belfast, Marshall Co., Tennessee, USA[7]
