Marion was born on June 7, 1848 in Campbell County, Tennessee. On December 17, 1849 part of Campbell County became part of Scott County, Tennessee. He was the son of Robert Sexton and Salina ( Keeton ) Sexton . The area where Marion was born was named Homestead on July 27, 1859 some years later the name was changed to Helenwood. He married Emeline Newport on November 19, 1868 in Scott County, later he married Jicy Blakley on July 4, 1885 in Scott County. He was a farmer and passed away from a disease of the stomach and hypertrophy of the liver, on June 23, 1917 at Helenwood in Scott County. Marion and his sister Martha Sexton were twins, a grave site for Marion has not been found.
