Elmore was born on June 10,1908 at Cordell in Scott County, Tennessee. He was the son of Jasper Sexton and Laura ( Chambers ) Sexton . He married Elsie Rachel Newport on November 1, 1936 at Huntsville in Scott County. He was employed by Tennessee Railroad Co. as an engineer and fireman. He was disabled after an accident on Sept. 16, 1948 when he suffered a back fracture in a fall off a railroad car. From 1939 to 1942 he was employed by Verdun Lumber Co., and from 1937 to 1939 he was a member of the police department for the Town of Oneida. During part of that time he served as chief. Mr. Sexton served as sessions court judge from 1952 to 1958. Elmore passed away on February 2, 1969 at Titusville in Brevard County, Florida.

Elmore Sexton, 60, Dies Unexpectedly - Elmore Sexton, former General Sessions Court judge in Scott County and chief of police in Oneida, died Sunday, Feb. 2, in a hospital in Titusville, Fla., after a sudden illness. Mr. Sexton, 60, had been visiting in Titusville. He was a resident of Oneida. A native of Scott County, he was a son of the late Jasper Sexton and Laura Chambers Sexton. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and Oneida Masonic Lodge No. 695. From 1928 to 1948, Mr. Sexton was employed by Tennessee Railroad Co. as an engineer and fireman. He was disabled after an accident on Sept. 16, 1948 when he suffered a back fracture in a fall off a railroad car. From 1939 to 1942 he was employed by Verdun Lumber Co., and from 1937 to 1939 he was a member of the police department for the Town of Oneida. During part of that time he served as chief. Mr. Sexton served as sessions court judge from 1952 to 1958. Survivors include his wife, Elsie Newport Sexton of Oneida; daughters, Mrs. William C. Terry of Titusville, Fla., and Mrs. James E. Terry of Oneida; six sisters, Allie Owens, Autha Overstreet and Hattie Byrd, all of Cincinnati, Dora Crowley of Knoxville, Minnie Newport of Dayton, Ohio, Dorothy Brown of Huntsville; three brothers, Crawford Sexton of Winona, Tenn., Fred Sexton of Knoxville, Howard Sexton of Cincinnati, Ohio; four grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the Bethlehem Baptist Church 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, with the Rev. Millard F. Strunk and Rev. Roy Blevins officiating. Burial followed in the Carson Memorial Park. Oneida Masonic Lodge No. 695 F & AM were in charge of service at graveside. Pallbearers were Lloyd Cross, Fred H. Duncan, Jim Blevins, Chad Ellis, Clet Wright and Bob Wright. The Masons served as honorary pallbearers. West Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. (Source: The Scott County News, 7 Feb 1969, p1)
