HE IS NOT THE SON OF JEREMIAH SEYMOUR SEE RESEARCH NOTES

John is not the son of Edward Seymour and Anne Portman, nor was he the governor of Maryland. [1][2]

John Seymour is said to be the son of Jeremiah Seymour and Ann "unknown", he doesn't appear in the church records of Olney, Buckingshire, England. He was not the governor of Maryland, although the birth and death dates of that John have been given to this John. Is this John an actual person, or someone who was developed in order to give Jeremiah York's first wife a family????? The only record found is from Find A Grave, and that doesn't have sources.

Olney Parish Records

The records of Olney Parish doesn't include a John Seymour.

  • Richard Yorke and Sevinour married November 14, 1682
  • Jeremiah Yorke son of Richard christened September 9, 1683
  • Jeremiah Seymour is recorded as being buried on September 21, 1683
  • Mary York daugh of Richard christened September 1, 1684
  • Richard Yorke son of Richard christened May 2, 1686
  • Eliz York daugh of Richard christened April 30, 1693
  • Ann Seamour, widow, buried October 8, 1694
  • Richard York buried March 6, 1695

Research Notes

There isn't any records to prove the existence of this John Seymour, he may have been created just to give Jeremiah York's first wife a family. Also the age difference between his suppose sister and him, would suggest either two marriages for Jeremiah Seymour, or this John not being their son.

I'm disconnecting this profile from Jeremiah and Ann Seymour, there isn't any proof, except through FAG-which is unsourced, to link this John with Jeremiah and Ann Seymour. He doesn't show up on any records in the Register of the Parish of Olney Co. Bucks.

Seymour-2636 and Seymour-1056 appear to represent the same person because: These profiles have been corrected to the right dates, and represent the same person. They can be merged.

Looking at the family of Baron Edward Seymour and Anne Portman, they didn't have a son John, so I'm disconnecting him. They also were not in Buckinghamshire. Some sites connect John Seymour, Gov. of Maryland to them, but his father was a Thomas Seymour.

Note: seems to be a mix-up over who this John is, there was a John Seymour (1649-1709) who was gov. of Maryland, and his date of death seems to be mixed with this John. According to the Archives of Maryland Vol 426-p 726, John Seymour was born 1649, Gloucestershire, England, died 7/30/1709 Maryland, s/o Thomas Seymour. His 1st wife was Margaret Bowles, 2nd wife Hester Newton. The John from Olney, Buckinghamshire, wasn't the governor.
