Daughters of the American Revolution
Asa Seymour is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A102389.

Asa Seymour was born in 5 September 1760 in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut Colony to parents Daniel Seymour and Lydia King.

Determining Asa Seymour's service in the American Revolution was a challenge! Using sources from "U.S. Rosters of Revolutionary War Soldiers and Sailors, 1775-1783", it appears he served as follows. Note that he is listed on the rosters of the 5th and 2th regiments, which merged:

  • 1776: Col. Andrew Ward's Regiment, Connecticut State Troops[1]
  • 1777: Col. John Chandler's 8th Regiment, Continental Line (Captain Mattocks' Company)[2]
  • 1781-1783: Col. Isaac Sherman's 5th Regiment, Continental Line [3]
  • 1783: Col. Heman Swift's 2nd Regiment, Continental Line (previously 5th Regiment)[4]

After the war, he married Elizabeth Denison of New London, on 17 December 1786. Their children were:

  1. Elizabeth "Betsey" Seymour, b. 16 Feb 1788; married William Wadsworth
  2. Katherine (or Catherine) Seymour, b. 30 May 1789; married Joseph Brown
  3. Mary Seymour, b. 27 May 1791; married Roger Newell
  4. Chester, b. 10 Jan 1793; married Florilla Mather
  5. Mabel Seymour, b. 22 May 1795; married Russell Rollins
  6. William Seymour, b. 26 May 1798; d. Oct 1850
  7. Ann Seymour, b. 29 Dec 1801; married David F. Robinson
  8. Albert Seymour (twin), b. 29 Apr 1804; married Jerusha Ensign
  9. Almira Seymour (twin), b. 29 Apr 1804; d. Nov 1866

Asa died in Hartford on 28 October 1810. James Wells of Hartford was appointed Administrator of his insolvent estate 2 February 1811.[5]
