Charles and his second wife Ethel officially adopted Eunice and she changed her name to Norma Jean at the adoption on the 14.09.1948. She was 18 years old.
Charles and his first wife, Jane (who died in October 1938) had fostered a child, Norma Jean, (born as Eunice Wilkins on 7th January 1930) from the Berry St Home in East Melbourne late in 1930, to raise, but did not legally adopt her.
