Biography

Walter Josephus Shackelford was named for his mother's (Jennie Spring (Edwards) Shackelford's) brother (Walter Josephus Edwards) who died as an infant and also "Josephus" for his maternal grandfather (Josephus Berry Edwards).

He and his wife Alice (Randolph) Shackelford resided on Hanover Square in Brunswick, GA directly across from the Confederate Monument (his father Henry Patrick Shackelford was a Confederate Veteran).
