Biography
Donald Shadd is a part of US Black heritage.
Donald William Shadd was born on 7 April 1906 in Kent, Ontario, Canada. He was the son of William Shadd and Ina Thomas.[1] In the 1911 census Donald (age 5) was the son of William A Shadd in Ontario.[2] In the 1921 census Donald (age 15), Student, was the single son of William Shadd at 11 Raleigh, Kent, Ontario, Canada.[3]
Donald (age 30), son of William A. Shadd & Ina Shadd, married Janet Eileen Watts on 26 June 1937 in Raleigh, Kent, Ontario, Canada.[4] He migrated to Detroit, returning to the country his grandparents had fled during slavery. Donald registered for the draft on 16 October 1940 in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, United States, as a Canadian subject. He and Janet lived at 4534 Vinewood Avenue. He worked for Ambrose Geno at 1361 East Warren Avenue in Detroit. He later lived at 406 Hague.[5] Donald crossed into the United States on 25 December 1945 in Detroit, Michigan, United States[6] In the 1950 census Donald (age 43), gas station manager, was the married head of household living at 348 Englewood in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, United States.[7] Donald was in a naturalization record on 20 September 1963 in Detroit, District Court.[8]
Donald died (age 72) on 24 September 1978 in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, where he lived.[9]
