Harold "Webb" Shadle was born to Owen and Cora (Glenn) Shadle August 24, 1895 in Pleasantville, Iowa.[1][2][3][4] Owen was working as a merchant and Cora was a housewife.
The Shadles were living in Pleasantville, Iowa at the time of the 1900 US Census.[5] Owen was a dry goods merchant.
In 1915, Webb was enumerated in the Iowa census at home in Pleasantville.[6] He had completed 8 years of grammar school, 4 years of high school, and 2 years of college. He could read and write, and had spent nine months of the year in college. He considered himself a Christian.
Webb filed for the World War I draft June 5, 1917 in Pleasantville.[4] He was a student and single at the time.[4] He was described as of a slender medium build with brown eyes and light brown hair.[4] He had no remarkable birth marks, scars, or other markings on his body at the time.[4] He was attending Drake University at the time, where he was referred to as the "very pineapple of politeness" and was well regarded. He served in World War I. Following the war, he went onto attend Columbia University.
Webb worked first in Washington, D.C., then later in California and was a practicing attorney.
