Biography

Cayley was the son of Launcelot Shadwell and Isabella Cayley. He was born on 18 March 1798 and baptised at St Pancras, Middlesex on 21 December 1798. The parish register spells his first name Caley: other records spell it Cayley.^[1]

He studied at Westminster School and Trinity College, Cambridge. He was admitted to Lincoln's Inn in 1820 and called to the Bar in 1825. He worked as an equity draftsman and conveyancer. He passed away in 1887.^[2]

The 1861 census lists Cayley in the Marylebone district of London, age 63, single, barrister, born St Pancras, London. Sisters Isabella Shadwell, single, 59, born St Pancras; Mary C Shadwell, single, 54, born St Pancras.^[3]

His death, age 89, was registered in the Marylebone district of London in the 3rd quarter of 1887.^[4]
