Biography

David Shaffer and his wife Catherine (Faust) Shaffer are buried in Rummel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Rummel, PA. This was once Andy Shaffer's farm. David and Catherine have only field stones to mark their graves. I have never really accepted the death date of David Shaffer as being 1854. In 1856 Daniel, David's youngest son, married Elizabeth Seese in the home of David Shaffer (not deceased father) by Squire Adam Holsopple. Also I have come across a different David Shaffer in Som.Co. with a probate record for 1854. I don't know where the 1860 date for Catherine"Kate" came from but they surely were both dead by 1860 when Daniel was the head of the household with wife Elizabeth and had six children in it along with his older sister Susan, David's youngest daughter. Susan remained with Elizabeth after Daniel's death until her death in 1912, Elizabeth followed her four years later. I have this compete family, with some photos, but I do not have anything ( with proof positive) about John Shaffer, son of Levi. Levi (Samuel- don;t know where the middle name came from that is being passed around I never found it on any documents) if I am correct there is no S. on his grave marker in the Schellsburg Cem., nor is there an R. for the middle name on Levi Shaffer,'s 1847-1917, marker. Martin Edgar Shaffer, born 1892, wrote that his grandfather was Levi Shaffer and his father was Levi Shaffer, his letter of 1955 did not mention the middle names, he died in 1962. I need to find out something on John Shaffer, preacher, born 1832 to Levi Shaffer Sr. If you have info. on him I would appreciate it. I did find an obit. with an Asa T. Shaffer that names him as the son of John Shaffer and Mary Ann Miller Shaffer, not sure if it is the same guy.
