Joan Shakespeare was the first of eight children of John Shakespeare, glover, of Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, and his wife Mary Arden.
She was baptised on 15 September 1558 at Holy Trinity, Stratford, and entered in the parish register as "Jone shakespere Daughter to John Shakspere."[1][2]
She is thought to have died as an infant,[3] possibly during the severe typhus and influenza epidemics of the late 1550s.[2] John and Mary Shakespeare had another daughter baptised Joan on 15 April 1569.[4][3]
