Biography

Catherine Shank was born about 1803 in Virginia; the child of Fredrick Shank and Molly Brenner. Catherine passed away after the 1850 census probably in White County, Indiana, where she resided with her sister Elizabeth Yount[1]. She is buried next to her sister in the Indian Creek Cemetery in Pulaski County, Indiana[2].

Research Notes

Witt-1888 07:53, 16 June 2023 (UTC): The 1843 will of Catherine's father did not give her surname as Shull. The word "shall" following her name looks very much like "Shull" and was included in a published abstract of the will. Unless other records are located, current evidence supports Catherine as having never married. Many trees show her as the wife of William B. Shull of Boone County, Indiana, without source. It appears that his wife Catherine's surname at birth was Chrisman.

Catherine Shank was not married to a man named Shull. This name came from an abstract of her father’s will, but it did not exist in his will. The word “shall” was simply misread as “Shull” after Catherine’s name in the will. Catherine was in the 1850 census with her sister Elizabeth, and her headstone is next to her sister’s under the memorial name of Catherine Shanks. I’ll disconnect this profile and add sources.
