Biography

Herbert was born 13 Mar 1902 according to his Social Security records. I have been unable to locate a birth record for him. [1]

In 1910, Herbert, who is the oldest child; is living with his father, mother, a younger sister and two younger brothers in Columbus Ward 9, Franklin, Ohio.[2]

By 1920, the family has moved to Sunbury Rd, in Mifflin, Franklin, Ohio. Herbert although still living at home is working as a laborer in the Motor Car industry.[3]

The family has grown considerably and Herbert now has 2 younger sisters and 5 younger brothers. [4]

In 1922, Herbert is living in Columbus, Ohio, working as a clerk. At his point in time he is living (I got a giggle out of this and yest there really is such an avenue with this name in Columbus, Ohio...I looked it up on google maps and checked out the satellite image) at 2255 Genessee Ave.

Herbert married Genesee A. Butterfield on February 4, 1923. [5]

In 1923, Herbert and Genesee were living at 2079 Aberdeen Ave, Columbus, Ohio and Herbert was working as a welder. [6]

In 1924 they moved to 3595 E Ave, Columbus, Ohio and we find Herbert working as a laborer.[7]

They moved to 25 Cannon Street, Dayton, Montgomery, Ohio approximately 1927 with Herbert working as a manager. [8][9][10][11]

From 1933-1936 the City Directory has them living at 21 Riverdale, Dayton, Ohio and Herbert working as an Insurance Agent.[12]

1940 has them still living in Dayton but they now live on Shaw Street. They are still renting but Herbert is now working as a Furnace salesman. The two oldest children appear to have moved out, perhaps married by this time but two more children have been born another boy (Herbert Jr.) and another daughter. [13]They remained at 324 Shaw Street at least through 1946.[14]

From 1955-1959 the City Directory shows that Herbert was living at 43 Park Drive, Dayton, Ohio and working as a Sales Engineer.[15]

There is an indication that they also at some point may have adopted Herbert's sister's (Vinnia) child; LInda Lou Shannon born 21 Jun 1945 in White Cross Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. [16]

Herbert died in Dayton, Ohio on 2 Nov 1968.[17] He is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.[18]

It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Herbert by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Herbert:
