Hugh Shannon is mentioned his father's May 13, 1741 Last Will & Testament.
From: WILLIAM EWING (c1696-1794) OF ROCKINGHAM Co.--page 6[1]
One William Shannon (Sr as son called Jr) of Sadsbury twp. Lancaster Co. wrote his will there on May 13, 1741. See will Book A Vol. 1 page 69. It says briefly:
“I a farmer, sick, give to wife Mary, son James, son Hugh, daughter Gresall, daughter Jean Shennon, son-in-law Robert McAlphin, son William Shennon right and title of improvement on which I live.” One witness was John Shennon who wrote his name clearly. Surely he is the eldest son of Thomas Shannon above. The will was proved in court by Sal Blunston, D. Reg. on 25 March 1742. Probate and letters testamentary granted to Wm. Shannon, Jr.
We suggest that this must be a brother to the above Thomas Shannon and that they died about 4 years apart.
Hugh Shannon married Rachel McKeever, widow of Darby McKeever, Jr. around 1760. Darby was killed in an Indian raid on Fort Edwards in 1756. She had 7 children at the time: Rachel, Darby III, James, Paul, John, Hugh and Esther.
