Edward C. Shannon was born on June 22, 1887 in Clarion, Charlevoix, Michigan to John Shannon and Mary Riddle. He grew up in Petoskey, Emmett, Michigan. [1][2]
Edward, age 30, registered for the United States World War I military draft on June 5, 1917. He was employed as a mechanic for the Monroe Motor Company in Pontiac, Michigan. He was described as 5'8" tall with a medium build and with dark hair and blue eyes. According to the 1930 United States Census, Edward served in the military. [3]
On December 6, 1919, Edward, age 33 and a mechanic, married Anna Merchant, age 29 and a clerk, in Pontiac, Oakland, Michigan. This was his first marriage and her second. They were both residents of Pontiac. [4]
In 1920, Edward, wife Hazel (aka Anna), and stepdaughter, Velma Merchant, were boarders in the home of Frank and Sarah Lewis in Pontiac, Michigan. Edward was employed as a mechanic for a motor company. [5]
Edward was a boarder in the home of Mary and Norman Branston in Pontiac in 1930. Although he was still married, his wife was not listed as a resident in the home. He continued to be employed as a mechanic. [6]
In 1940, Edward resided in Walloon Lake, Melrose Township, Charlevoix, Michigan with his mother, Mary Shannon. He was single, and a farmer. [7]
Edward, age 54, registered for the United States World War II military draft in 1942. He was a farmer and resident of Clarion, Charlevoix, Michigan. He gave his sister's name, Mrs. Glen Padgett, as his contact. [8]
In 1942, Edward was involved in a three-car collision that resulted in the death of his mother, Mary Shannon.
Edward died on May 10, 1966 in Big Rapids, Mecosta, Michigan. [9] He was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Petoskey, Emmet, Michigan.[10]
