David died on Pine Hut Creek, South Australia on 16 June 1900 at the age of 46 years. ^[3] The following death notice was published in the South Australian newspaper, The Evening Journal, on 20 June 1900:^[4]

SHANNON.—On the 16th June, at his residence, Murray Flats, suddenly, David, dearly beloved husband of Mary Ann Shannon, in his 46th year.

David was buried at the Towitta Cemetery in Towitta, South Australia on 18 June 1900. ^[5]

The following obituary was published in the newspaper, The South Australian Register, on 20 June 1900:^[6]

TRURO, June 18. — News was received here yesterday morning of the sudden death of Mr. David Shannon, which occurred at his residence, near Towitta, on Saturday night. The deceased gentleman, who was a son of the late Mr. Abraham Shannon, of Moculta, was well known and much respected in this neighbourhood. He has left a widow and large family.
