Convicts After the Third Fleet 1792-1868
Martin Shannon was an Irish grocer, spirit dealer, and butcher. He age 28, married with one child when he was tried in Dublin 11 March 1830 [1] and sentenced to 7 years transportation for pig stealing. He was later transported to Sydney NSW on Hercules in 1830. [2] [3] The Hercules arrived in Port Jackson on Sunday 31st October or 1st November 1830. 199 prisoners arrived, one man having died on the passage out. The Captain gave them an excellent character.
The Hercules brought with her the news of the death of King George the Fourth.
Martin Shannon was assigned to John Connell in Pitt St. Sydney on his arrival. [2]
Martin gained his Certificate of Freedom on 6th November 1839. [4]
In July 1842, Martin's occupation was "settler" in Rosebank near Hinton in New South Wales. [1]
Martin passed away on 22nd March 1849. [5]
