In 1871, James, 28, is working as an agricultural labourer. His wife, Mary, is 25. They are living at Woodside in St Madoes, Perthshire, Scotland. Children living in the household include: (1) Elizabeth, 8, (2) Mary, 6, (3) Helen, 4, and (4) Isabella, 1.[1]

By 1881, James and his family are living in Almondbank, Methven, Perthshire. James, 38, is working as a fireman. The family include for children living in the household: (1) Elizabeth Sharp, 18, (2) Mary Sharp, 16, (3) Helen Sharp, 14, and (4) Peter Sharp, 2.[2]

In 1891 the family has moved and they are living in the Caledonian Buildings in Perthshire. James, 49, is working as a Stertunny Fireman. Living in his household are: (1) Elizabeth Sharp, 21, (2) Mary Sharp, 25, (3) Peter Sharp, 12, (4) Robert Nicol, 22, (5) Helen Nicol, 23, (6) James Nicol, 8 months [3]
