Sharp collected over four thousand songs from untutored rural singers, both in South-West England and the Southern Appalachian region of the United States.

Birth 22 November 1859 • Denmark Hill, Surrey, England

Cecil, son of James Sharp & Jane Sharp, was baptised on 8 December 1859 in St Paul, Herne Hill, Camberwell, Southwark, England.[1]residence Denmark Hill.

Cecil's birth was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1860 in the Camberwell district.[2]

In the 1861 census Cecil (age 1) was the son of James Thorp in Prince's, Lambeth, Surrey, England.[3]

In the 1871 census Cecil (age 11) was the boarder of Robert I Hodgkinson in Uppingham, Rutland, England.[4]

In the 1881 census Cecil (age 21), Undergraduate Camb, was the boarder of Michael F. Hewes at 8 Tennis CT Rd, St Mary the Less, Cambridgeshire, England.[5]

He married on 22 Aug 1893 in Bedminster, Somerset, England, Constance Dorothea Birch (1862–1928)[6]

In 1900 he Joined the Fabian society[7]

In the 1901 census Cecil (age 41) was the head of household in Hampstead, London, England.[8]

In the 1911 census Cecil (age 51), Musician, Lecturer And Writer, was the married head of household at 183 Adelaide Road, Hampstead N W, Hampstead, London, England.[9]

Cecil was registered to vote in 1913 in Uxbridge, Hillingdon, England.[10]

Cecil arrived at Falmouth, from New York onboard the "Rijndam" ship on 18 December 1916[11]

Cecil arrived at New York from Liverpool onboard the "Baltic" ship on 8 March 1917[12] it notes he has a scald scar on his chest.

Cecil's death (age 65) was registered in the Apr-May-Jun quarter of 1924 in the Hampstead district.[13]

Cecil Sharp was a well-respected collector of folk songs and dances in England and the USA . He is especially revered among the community of Morris Dancers. [17]

His memory is commemorated in the special meeting point and library in London - Cecil Sharp House

Much early work was done in conjunction with Mary Neal (cf Neal-3580 on Wikitree) but a very public rift developed after 1909 .
