Biography

Richard was born about 1775 most probably in Rockingham County, North Carolina. He married Nancy Means around the year 1795 and passed away sometime after 1830 in the Elk Fork valley in Campbell County, Tennessee, where they had moved prior to 1810.

Richard and Nancy had the following children:

  6. James N., b. 1806
  7. Andrew Robinson, b. 1808
  8. William David, b. 1810
  9. Nancy, b. 1812


1790 - Richard is in his father's household as one of the three males under 16 years of age (born after 1774). Rockingham County, N.C.[1]

1800 - Richard Sharp Jr. is in the federal census of Rockingham County, N.C. Close by are his older brother William, his father Richard, and widowed sister Nancy Smith. Richard and his wife, who is a few years older, have three young children which implies their marriage c. 1795.[2]

- He relocates to Campbell County, Tennessee, with his father and brothers.

1818 - He is on the tax list of Campbell County in Thomas Moad's district.[3]

6 Jun 1822 - Richard Sharpe recovers ten dollars in a judgment against Julius Wilhite in Campbell County.[4]

5 Feb 1823 - Richard is named in his father's will, a deed of gift in which he distributed his property prior to death. Richard splits property equally with the other heirs.[5]

1830 - Richard is in the census of Campbell County. He and his wife are 50-60 years old (b. 1770-80) and they have two middle aged women and two young boys in the household.[6]

Richard was born in 1775. He passed away in 1823.
