Adelbert W. Sharp, 90, died Saturday, April 1, 2006, at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center, Lenox. Born in Hancock on Jan. 7, 1916, he was the son of Winfred and Pearl (Maynard) Sharp. He remained a resident of Hancock for his entire life and was educated in area schools. Mr. Sharp worked on his uncle Harry’s farm and at General Electric, Pittsfield before he went into the service. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a sergeant with the 688th Medical Hospital Ship Platoon. While in the service, he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and European African Middle East Campaign Medal. After returning home, he was employed by Hancock Mill, W.J. Cowee Co. Inc. in Berlin, N.Y., for several years and for 15 years at Taconic Mold, Dalton, as a molder, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Hancock Baptist Church, American Legion 162 in Williamstown and served on the Cemetery Committee for Hancock Cemetery. He loved to spend time in his yard growing and caring for his flowers. He leaves his wife of 59 years, Edna B. (Whitman) Sharp, whom he married on June 29, 1946, in the Stephentown (N.Y.) Baptist Church; two cousins, Janet Boody of Windsor and Doris Geerholt of Berlin; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. His brother, Richard Williams, is deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Adelbert Sharp will be held Wednesday, April 5, 11 a.m., at Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 Route NY 43 in Stephentown, N.Y. Burial in Hancock Cemetery, Hancock, will follow. Calling hours are Tuesday, 4-7 p.m., at the funeral home
