Biography

Mattie P. Sharpe was born in October 1895 in Missouri, USA (see Research Notes). She is the daughter of John David Sharpe and Bettie Smith. She married and divorced.^[1] She worked in a machine wharehouse at a glass factory in Missouri in 1920. She died in San Francisco, San Francisco, California, USA sometime after 1920.

Research Notes

Mattie's birth date and place are in question because of conflicts in the Census information and no death certificate or gravesite. The 1900 and 1910 census shows her as having been born in Missouri in Oct 1893 and 1896, respectively. The 1900 Census shows Effie and Mattie as seven years old with Effie born in North Carolina and Mattie born in Missouri. The 1910 Census shows Effie as being two years older than Mattie. The 1920 Census shows Mattie as being 25 years old ( born in 1895) and born in Missouri. Effie's tombstone and death certificate have been located and shows that she was born on Oct 14, 1893 in North Carolina. Is is possible that Mattie was born in Oct 1895 in Missouri after the family moved from North Carolina to Missouri, between when Effie and Mattie were born.^[2]
