Biography

George Washington Sharpe was born on Aug 9, 1848 in Davidson County, North Carolina, USA. His parents were David Stokes Sharpe and Sarah Angeline Young. His family moved from Davidson County to Eagle Mill Township, Iredell County, North Carolina sometime between 1857 and 1860. George married Agnes Rosanna Wooten (1849-1918) in 1873 in Iredell County. [1]

George and Agnes had the following children:

  1. John David Sharpe (1871-1941), who married Betty Smith[2]
  2. William Preston Sharpe (1874-1950), who married first Sara Malinda Henderson and second, Allie Florance Cass[3]
  3. Thomas Pinkney Sharpe (1876-1944), who married Marie C. Bondenson[4]
  4. Martha D. Sharpe (1878-1951), who married Roswell Pearson Crater[5]
  5. Lewis Sharpe (1881-1959), who married Hessie Privette Sharpe[6]
  6. Charles A. Sharpe (1883-1885), who died as an infant
  7. Leander Washington Sharpe, Sr. (1888-1959), who married Josephine Bell Mullis[7]
  8. Rosanna Almedia Sharpe (1889-1946), who married Thomas Vance Haynes[8]
  9. George Dora Sharpe (1895-1979), who married George Bradley Campbell[9]

George was a farmer. He died on Mar 23, 1915 and is buried at the Union Grove Methodist Church, Union Grove, Iredell, North Carolina.[10]
