Biography

Ellaleigh was born in winter 1917, the second daughter of William Sharpe and Hilda Simpson. The 1921 census found Ellaleigh living with her sister, mother and maternal grandparents at 134 Menzies Street, Victoria, BC.[1]

Ellaleigh remained with her grandparents in Victoria during the early 1920s, as her mother went to San Francisco and secured a divorce. As her grandfather was becoming ill, a few weeks before he passed away in 1926, Ellaleigh and her sister joined their mother in San Francisco (note the group was initially rejected entry, but their case was appealed and the immigration was allowed to proceed on September 8).[2][3] They lived with Ellaleigh's great-great uncle Ernest Leigh at 1133 Hayes Street.[4]

At 19 years old in summer 1936, Ellaleigh married Walter William Bridgeman, who was 21.[3] The couple lived at 1499 Union Street, San Francisco. Their son William was born in spring 1947.

On April 19, 1952, Ellaleigh entered the nursing staff at Marin General Hospital, rising to the level of Supervisor of Obstetrics .[5] She remained at that job until moving to Santa Cruz in winter 1961.[6]

It is unclear when and how Ellaleigh's Bridgeman marriage was dissolved, but she was free to marry Dr. Jack Merrill Sharp at Reno in summer 1966.[7] He passed away about two years later.

Ellaleigh Sharp passed away in winter 1989:
