Margaret was born in Aberfeldy in September 1853 and baptised in nearby Weem on Christmas Day the same year. The Scottish Census of 1841 records her working 30 miles from home as a maid for a Mrs Gray in Comrie.
She sailed from Liverpool with her parents on the "Queen of the East", (Captain Charles Gardner) from Liverpool on 19 June 1854 carrying 652 English, Scottish and Irish and arrived in Melbourne, Victoria on 10 September.
On 26 Dec 1874 she married Josiah Willmott in Melbourne, Australia and between 1875 and 1881, they had four children:
She passed away at the home of her daughter Catherine (Kit) Margaret on 20 October 1933 and was buried at the Cheltenham Cemetery the following Sunday (21 October).
