Benjamin was a Friend (Quaker)

Benjamin Sharples/Sharpless, son of Joseph Sharples and Lydia Lewis, born January 26, 1709; Nether Providence, Chester (now Delaware) Co., Pennsylvania; died in Middletown, Chester (now Delaware) Co., Pa. May 16, 1785[1][2]

Benjamin, son of Joseph Sharpless & Lydia L, was born on 26 January 1708/9.[3]

Benjemin died (age 76) on 16 March 1785 in Pennsylvania.[4]

Benjamin married (1) April 27, 1737 at the Concord Monthly Meeting, in Concord Township, Chester (now Delaware) Co., Pennsylvania, to Edith Broome, born abt 1718; she died August 13, 1744 (leaving 3 children)[2]

Benjamin married (2) May 21, 1746 at the Concord Monthly Meeting, Martha Mendenhall, b. Feb 8, 1724; died Jan 20 1812; daughter of Benjamin and Lydia Mendenhall, of Concord[5]

Benjamin Sharples had 16 children between his 2 wives; 5 of those children died in 1763[5]

April 27, 1741, Benjamin Sharples, was appointed overseer at the Middletown Monthly Meeting, in room of Nathan Yarnall; and succeeded by Samuel Sharples, October 29, 1744

Benjamin was appointed again Feb 25, 1758, instead of Philip Yarnall dec'd; and succeeded Oct 29, 1763 by Joseph Talbot Jr

His will dated April 10, 1785; proven June 2, 1785; mentions his widow, leaving her money and during her widowhood the use of all the East end of my house, being the new addition; and giving her £150; devises as follows:[6]

  • To children of son Benjamin, dec'd, £50
  • to daug. Edith Ferris £78
  • To son Joshua, £100
  • To son Aaron, £220
  • To daug. Amy, £150
  • To daug. Hannah, £56
  • To daug. Hester, £150
  • To daug. Sarah, £155; and bed, drawers, and bedding, all of which were my daughter Rebeckah's; also a new saddle and bridle
  • To daughter-n-law Elizabeth Sharples, 20 shillings; and to her son Benjamin £100
  • To son Samuel, tenement and tract of land on which I now dwell, 160 acres at 21 he paying £300 to other legatees, and providing for his mother
  • To son Joshua, the Homestead at a reasonable rent, until Samuel is of age, and the latter to be put to a trade
  • Residue to the 8 surviving children, Joshua to have a double share

The inventory provided by Abraham Sharples and Joseph Pennell, amounted to £1780

Benjamin was a Friend (Quaker)

Beniamin, child of Joseph Sharplis & Lidia (Lewis) Sharplis, was born on 26 January 1709 (NOTE: technically, he was born in 1710 due to double date concept) in Neither, Chester, Pennsylvania.[7]

Benjamen and Edith Broom announced their marriage intentions for the first time at the Concord MM on 7 March 1736 in Delaware, Pennsylvania.[8]

Benjamen married Edeth Broom on 7 April 1737 in Delaware, Pennsylvania.[9]

Benjamin married Martha Mendenhall on 1 May 1746 in Delaware, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of deceased Benjamin Mendenhall of Concord.[10]

Benjamin died (age 76) on 16 March 1785 in Pennsylvania.[11]

Benjamin died on 16 March 1785 and was buried in Lima, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States.[12]
