Biography

William Shaw was born on February 23, 1647 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland. His parents were William Shaw and Eupham Robeson. [1]

research notes

This profile previously cited this William as dying in Fiddown ,County Kilkenny. I can't find and conclusive sources that support this. The will in Fiidown may be a grandson of the Shaws from Greenock, a decendant of Robert Shaw of Patrick Shaw related to the Mont- gomeries. [2]

I am having trouble finding any evidence of william migrating to England. The Hampshire william shaw is described as being born in 1651. This puts in doubt any connection between The william in Glasgow and the william in Hampshire.

The parish birth record of William indicates that while he was recorded as christened in Glasgow , the birth entry states " at Murdstonne. " Murdestone house is is in East Greenock ( Renfrew ). This information makes him a descendant of the Shaws of Sauchie.

All the Shaws of Greenock were christened in Glasgow, Paisley or similar as Greenock regularly did not have a minister.
