Biography

Gerald Arthur Shaw was born May 28, 1907 in Pleasant Hill township in Sullivan County, Missouri. He was the son of George Herman Shaw & Anna Elizabeth Sevier.

Gerald Arthur Shaw's father, George Herman Shaw, died of pneumonia April 16, 1911, when Gerald Arthur Shaw was 3 years old. His mother Anna Elizabeth Sevier & older brother Ennis Leroy Shaw were responsible for farm work.

After his brother Ennis Leroy Shaw married Vera Verna Haney in Washington, Iowa in 1922, Gerald Arthur Shaw, his mother Anna Elizabeth Sevier & his younger sister Mary Bertha Shaw & her husband Stanley Duane Maxwell, moved to Washington, Iowa, and lived with Ennis Leroy Shaw & Vera Verna Haney until 1940.

In April, 1940. Gerald Arthur Shaw was living with his mother on a farm in Jackson Township in Sullivan County, Missouri. He had completed 8th grade. Enumerated in the household were:

Anna Elizabeth Sevier's father, James Washington Sevier, died in October, 1940, leaving her 2 farms and money. Gerald Arthur Shaw took over one of the farms.

Gerald Arthur Shaw registered for the draft on October 16, 1940 in Pollock, Sullivan County, Missouri. He was described as 5'8½" tall, weighing 155 lbs., with brown hair, brown eyes, and a light complexion.

Gerald Arthur Shaw married Dorothy Mabel Morlan in July, 1953. She was the daughter of Hannibal Morlan & Lydia Margaret Rooks. Dorothy Mabel Morlan had married Dewain Hiram Helms on January 17, 1942 and divorced him.

Gerald Arthur Shaw died on November 16, 1953 in Pollock, Sullivan County, Missouri. He was 46 years old. He was buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Pleasant Hill Township in Sullivan County, Missouri.
