He inherited his uncles title of Knight after the failure of that line around 1640. It appears he inherited on the death of his father while he was in his minority in 1622 properties around Greenock and Sauchie. the sassines are written in such away that it would be implied.[2]
He passed away in 1679.
Research Notes
This profile is based on Primary information from land transfers called Sassines.Sassines in the 15-16th century Scotland were agreed on when a couple married and land was transferred from one family to another on marriage or death of a family member. Prior to 1650 there are few church records because of the reformation and the destruction of church records.
The Sasine of 23 Dec 1622 mentions John's brother Robert is an attorney and implies that he was of full age but the statement that John was "the neawest and lawful heir" means that Robert was a younger brother and that John was of full age plus a year or more placing John's birth prior to 1601. Formerly, a date of "about 1590" was entered in the "Birth Date" while the bio in conflilct with that date had "about 1615."
