Aunt Margaret, as she was known, was born on July 1, 1822. She married John Giffin, grandson of pioneer Robert Giffen, on February 1, 1838 and they had 17 children together over the next 30 years.
They moved to Lees Summit, Missouri in 1869 and in late 1870, an outbreak of typhoid fever took her husband, John and two of their sons; John W. and Edward Connor.
Margaret was left with five children still at home and in great financial difficulty. The family survived however, and in 1884 Margaret sold the family homestead in Lees Summit and bought property near Blue Mound, Kansas.
She lived in her own house in Blue Mound until 18 months before her death on April 3, 1910. Margaret was cared for by her daughter Rosanna Waddell during her last days.
