George Shaw was born in Scotland.

George Shaw was born October 17,1880 to Robert Shaw and Margaret Livingston Auchinvole in Kilsyth, Stirlingshire, Scotland.

George married Barbara Lister on November 27, 1903 in the District of Blackfriar's in the Burgh of Glasgow, Scotland. Witnesses: Archibald Horn and Janet Watson. Archibald was the brother-in-law of Barbara and married to Margaret Lister.

George and Barbara had five children.

George left Scotland before his family in 1911 and emigrated to the Nanaimo coal mines on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada.

His family arrived later on in the year arriving at Quebec City on August 20th.
