John Shaw was born in about 1804 in Prescot, Lancashire.
John married Esther Howard on 3 Feb 1831 at St Peter's Church in Liverpool, Lancashire. Both were of the local parish. John was a labourer; Esther was a widow. The witnesses were Jane Griffiths and Jonathan Evans.
By June 6th 1841, the family were living in New Brighton, Eccleston. A Thomas Shaw (aged 20-24) was living with them, perhaps a brother of John. He was almost certainly not a son of John and Esther, because a line is drawn on the census page by Esther, denoting the end of the nuclear family unit. A Thomas Rigby (also aged 20-24) was also in the household. All three men were sail cloth weavers.
By March 30th 1851, John, Esther and their daughter Esther were living with John's uncle, Peter Shaw, in Prescot.
Research Notes
John was probably the son of James Shaw (1779-) and Martha Shaw, because their son Thomas was living with John in 1841. John was definitely the nephew of James' brother Peter, because he was living with him in the 1851 census.
No baptism has been found for John yet, however James and Martha Shaw married in 1802, and the christenings of their children that have been found so far begin late in 1805, so he could fit in the gap.
