His brother was Robert M Shaw (1897 - 1984).
Howard married Elizabeth Philippina Bowman (1864 - 1894) on 12 Sep 1889 in Bruce, Port Elgin, Ontario. Their son was Ralph Brackley Leslie Shaw (1891 - ~1915).
Howard married Carrie Josephine Lillie Bull (~1869 - ) on 6 Oct 1896 in Woodstock, Carleton, New Brunswick, Canada. Their daughter was Irma Jean Helena (Shaw) Dibblee (1898 - 1988).
Howard died on 1 Apr 1916 in Manhattan, New York City, New York, United States aged 49.

Part owner of the Anglo-Canadian Leather Company.[2], along with brother Charles Orlando Shaw. Moved to Canada from the US to escape creditors after a loss of government contracts. Refurbished the existing tanning works. Moved away when the local supply of Hemlock trees was exhausted, about 1910.
