When his first child, Allan, was born his occupation was student at university. By the time of the second child arrived he is listed as School master. Piggots directory in 1805 had his occupation as tutor, however at a separate location to his wife.
His death is only approximate by 1827 he is no longer on the records. so it would be assumed that he is dead.
His children were.
1. Alan
2. Walter
3.Neil, who became an accountant.
4.Elizabeth
5. john Ritchie, cooper, running a barrel making business.
6. William, who became a customs officer.
William was born the son of a Kirk officer in Greenock. William Shaw appears to have started as a student of divinity .[1] before becoming a school master. [2] He is mentioned as a school master in Greenock directory in 1805.[3][4]
Originally I had William the son of James Shaw his fathers second cousin. However a Obituary in 1826 had him born in 1756 eight years earlier. This was the only William i could find in that period. that fitted the profile of William.
If this is correct Williams father Robert appears to be a teacher or tutor. The baptism of his sibling is scattered over the district around Erskine. William himself being baptised in Kilbarchan, their residence noted as Quarrel town near paisley. The only significant establishment their at the time was a grammar school that his Paternal great -grandfather attended. ( see references to this.in his profile. )
