"about 1829, he went with his parents to the village of McLean, in the same town, where his father built a house, and was for some years engaged in running a flour-mill and in the manufacture of wagons and sleighs. Washington left home in June, 1832, to reside in the family of Jas. Comstock, publisher of the Gazette, Ballstonspa, Saratoga Co., N.Y. Mrs. Comstock was before marriage Mary Sears, sister of Sabrina Hollister's mother. In March, 1837, he went to work for Rufus A. Reed, who published a paper in both Homer and Cortland. In 1841, he spent the summer in the store of Daniel J. Shaw, Jr., at Corning, N.Y. In 1842, he went to Auburn, N.Y., where he worked in different printing-offices. In 1853, he went to Lockport and took part in the publishing of the Lockport Daily Journal, under the firm name of "Richardson and Shaw." In 1855, he lived at Vienna, N.Y., now called Phelps, and published the Western Atlas. In 1860 he removed to Albany, N.Y., where he now lives, engaged in the printing business.
He married Sarah Elizabeth Loomis, June 13, 1849; she was born in Middletown, Conn., Oct. 25. 1829, and is a daughter of Anson Abiel Loomis and Jeanette Towner.
