Bertha Arizona Shaw was born on November 13, 1902, in Ohio City, Ohio, her father, John, was 33, and her mother, Theodosia, was 28. She married Forest Grant Sanders on October 18, 1922, in Gallia, Ohio. They had four children in 18 years. She died on May 5, 1986, in Gallipolis, Ohio, at the age of 83, and was buried there.
