Biography

Rebecca was born to Thomas Shaylor and Jane Simmons about 1828 in Jay, Indiana.[1]

Rebecca married first to Ignatius Turman in June of 1855 in Linn county, Kansas.

"In the matter of the marriage of Ignatius Turman with Rebecca Shaler. Now at this day come the said Ignatius Turman and it appearing to the satisfaction of the court here that the said Ignatius Turman was lawfully married in Linn county Kansas Territory to one Rebecca Shaler daughter of Thomas Shaler, of the said county of Linn, in the territory of Kansas on or about the month of June in the year Eighteen Hundred and fifty five by a Joseph D. Ignatius died about 1862 and Rebecca married a second time to Linsey Wine[3]where they are listed in the 1865 Kansas census.[4]

In the 1880 U.S. census Linsey is living in Lone Oak, Bates county, Missouri[5]. Also listed are the children of Rebecca and Ignatius Turman, Martha and Lucinda Turman.

Rebecca Shaylor's relationship to Linsey is further proved in the social security claim that names Rebecca Shalor, Linsey Wines, Smith Shalor Wines, and Lindsey Wines in the application.[6]

Children with Ignatius Turman:

  • Mary E Turman b. about 1855[7]
  • Martha J. b. about 1858[8]
  • Lucinda b. about 1861[9]

Children with Linsay Wine:

  • Rebecca Wine b. 1862.[10]
  • Minerva Wine b. 1864[10]
  • Smith Shalor Wine b, 1867[11]
