Biography

Samuel Shears was born about 1640.

Samuel Shears marries Mary Peacock in Dedham on July 29, 1663.

Samuel and his wife Mary (Peacock) have 4 children recorded in Wrentham, Mass.[VRW:185]

  1. Mehetibel Shears b.Feb.1,1668
  2. Soloman Shears b. Feb.20,1670, m. Abigail and has Nathan b.Aug.22,1723.
  3. Grace Shears b. Feb. 29, 1672
  4. Judeth Shears b.June 17, 1675 m. 1716 John Streeter 6ch.

Note that King Philip War occurs around 1675 and Wrentham like many outer towns are evacuated to the coast for the duration of the war.

hmm this needs more work. seems to be two Samuel Shears in Wrentham.....

On Apr.26,1707 [M?]ary wife of Samuel Shears dies.[VRW:495 On Oct. 27, 1685 Samuel Shears marries Elizabeth Heath [VRW:319,369]

On August 10, 1704 Samuel Shears or Seers of Wrentham marries Deborah Streeter of Cambridge. [Vital Records of Wrentham to 1850 page 377. and VRC:350]

This would be the second marriage of both Samuel Shears and Deborah (Smith) Streeter. Deborah is the widow of Stephen Streeter with whom she had 8 children (1667-1689) all in Cambridge. While Samuel had been married to Mary and had 4 children (1668-1675) all in Wrentham before King Philips War 1675.

Deborah (Smith) (Streeter)'s son John and Samuel are buying land in the next town Attleboro around 1705. and her son John moves his family to Attleborough around 1705 from Cambridge.

Did Deborah (Smith) (Streeter) Shears get her recently widowed son John to marry her spinstered step daughter Judith Shears in 1716? DCB?

Deborough Shears, an aged woman formerly belonged to Wrentham" died Aug. 1725. [Vital Records of Attleborough to 1850 page 716]. (Given the birth dates of her Streeter children 1649 would be a good guess of her birth date. DCB.)
