Edmund Sheffield, Earl of Mulgrave, K.G. (b. 07 Dec 1565 - d. c. Oct 1646), was created 1st Earl of Mulgrave,[1] and succeeded as 3rd Baron Sheffield.[2] He was the son of :
Douglas Howard (b. 1542/3 - bur. 11 Dec 1608 St. Margaret's, Westminster),[3][4]
and her first husband, John Sheffield, 2nd Baron Sheffield (d. 10 Dec 1568).[5]
He was the older half-brother of the explorer, Robert Dudley (1574-1649).
Marriage
Edmund married twice to:
m. (bef. 13 Nov 1581) Ursula, dau. of Sir Robert Tyrwhitt.[2]
m. (14 Mar 1619 St. Margaret's, Westminster) Marian[a], dau. of Sir William Irwin or Irwing.[6]
Lewis, citing Richardson (c. 2011), only names wife Ursula Tyrwhitt, mother of 6 sons & 11 dau.[7] Thrush & Ferris (2010), state that son John of Butterwick (d. 1614), had a half-brother `James' but does not identify parents.[2]
