Research Notes

A Frances Potter and Ursula Fox were present for Benjamin Sheffield's baptism in 1828, though we haven't identified any direct connection to the family, a few clues as to who they were (likely friends);

Per the 1851 Census of Wilstead, John Fox (b. 1788) in Elstow is listed to be a Laborer while Ursula (?) Fox (b. 1789) Shambrook (d. 1869 Beds) is indicated to be a Lacemaker. Per the BMD Registers, they are all indicated to be Baptists, or baptized as such. They are shown to have the following children:

  • Sarah Ann Fox (b. 1819 d.1871 Eastcotts) Beds
  • Thomas Fox (b. 1821) Beds
  • Matilda Fox (b. 1828) Likely Wilstead, (In Wilstead 1851)
  • Elizabeth Fox (b. 1848) Likely Wilstead, (In Wilstead 1851)

Joel Potter (b. d.1854) in Wilstead & Frances Manns (b. d. 1838 Beds) were married in 1800 in Cardington, Bedfordshire. Per the BMD Registers, they are all indicated to be Baptists, or baptized as such. They are shown to have the following children:

  • Elizabeth (b. 1801 Beds)
  • Mary (b. 1803 Beds)
  • Levi (b. 1805 Beds)
