After Caroline became a widow she took her son, John Owen Smith, Jr. and daughter, Georgia Finley Smith with her to Modesto to visit George Wren, Roswell's cousin. Enter a personal reminiscence or story.
While getting dressed one day she called downstairs to her husband, Roswell, "Mr. Smith, if you want to have your way with me you need to come upstairs now because I need to put on all of these skirts!" Little did she know Roswell was downstairs talking to the minister who had just stopped by. Needless to say she was mortified when she found out, but the story got passed down.
