Biography

William Sheldon was born about 1753 in South Kingstown, Washington County, Rhode Island to Roger Sheldon and Freegift "Giffie" Sweet.

He married Ruth Lord Bishop on October 26, 1779 in Connecticut. They had nine children. During their marriage they lived in Norwich and Lisbon, Connecticut before moving to Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.

He served in the military during the American Revolution.

In the War of 1812, he served as a Corporal in Captain Joseph Mayo's Company, of Colonel Gershom Tuttle's (Jefferson County) Regiment, NY State Militia, from September 7, 1812 to September 20, 1812

He passed away July 18, 1815, and is buried in Brookside Cemetery, Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.
