Will of Jacob Shelly.

Jacob Shelly's will written in German and signed with the mark JS was translated by Abraham Myer. In the will he refers to the land holdings of his sons Jacob, Jr. and Michael in Rapho Township and to those of his sons Christian and Abraham in Donegal Township. He also referred to "my brother Christian". The will dated May 18, 1752 was not admitted to probate. The two deeds referred to were part of the administration of the estate of Jacob Shelly. By these deeds Mary Shelly and Peter Bowman, her husband, acquired 147 acres of land patented to her father. The remaining 180 acres were transferred to Peter Shelly.

As Follows: By deed of October 1, 1770, James Rankin of York County conveyed a portion of tract 5586 to Jacob. Also it was stated by his son Jacob that his father Jacob died abt 15 years age with the following transaction: March 22, 1791, Jacob Shelly, Jr. of Newberry Twp., petitioned the court, stating that Jacob, his Father, died 15 years ago and that he was the owner of lands, and was survived by his widow , Mary, Jacob, the petitioner, Mary, Barbara and Catherine. Request was made to have the lands appraised. ( Orphans Court, Vol F, Page 282. Its interesting to note here that the widow is named Mary, but according to other transactions involving deeds Jacob lists his wifes name as Anna. A good indication that Jacob was married twice but as of yet nothing has appeared to indicate this other than the above.
