Col. Joseph Shelton performed Patriotic Service in the American Revolution.

Biography

Colonel Joseph M. Shelton was born in 1758. He is the son of Samuel Shelton.

He married Mary Harris, the daughter of Major William Harris.

Residence: Forest Hill, built 1796.[1]

Colonel Joseph Shelton was a representative to the Legislature of Virginia from 1797-1798. He was the first sheriff of Nelson County, Virginia, 1807.

His will: Joseph's will was dated 10 March 1828, with a codicil added on 4 July 1833, and a second codicil on 10 September 1833. It was proved in court in Nelson County, Virginia, on 27 November 1839, and proved again a second time on 24 February 1840 (Samuel Harris having removed to Texas, thus necessitating a second presentation of the will with new witnesses).[2]
