Biography

Selah was born in 1784. She was the daughter of Armistead Shelton and Susannah (unknown maiden).

21 Feb 1801: married Richard Nowlin in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. [1]

c. 1836: moved to Missouri.

1850: Selah Nowlin, 65. living with spouse, Richard, in Ray County, Missouri. [2]

14 Nov 1859: died in Elkhorn, Ray, Missouri. burial: (plot, Section 1, Grave 57). Old New Garden Primitive Baptist Cemetery. Wood Heights, Ray County, Missouri. [3]

  • Selah and Richard had a child named Brian Ward Nowlin. None of 4 existing profiles for a Brian Ward Nowlin match their child. Basic info: Born 7 Jun 1813, Kentucky; died 1 Jun 1890, Missouri City, Missouri; spouse: Lucy N. Davis.
  • Note on birth year: 1781 to 1784 seems to be the range. Her headstone reads 1781, but her 1850 U.S. Census indicates 1784/1785.
