Mary, born about 1845 in La Prairie, Lower Canada (Quebec), was the child of John Shelton and Charlotte Shelton. Her family moved to Nepean, Carleton, Canada West (Ontario) by the Census of 1851.[1]
She married George Ward on January 13, 1876 in Ingersoll, Ontario. At the time of their marriage, she lived in Dereham and gave her place of birth as Ottawa.[2] Their son, George Henry, was born in 1882 in Dereham, Oxford, Ontario.[3]
